Baze Varsity Inaugurates Sambo, NDA-Isaiah, Others As Board Members

Abuja — The authorities of the Baze University, Abuja has inaugurated a five-member Board of Trustees (BoT) chaired by a former Vice President of Nigeria, Architect Namadi Sambo.

Other members of the board are the Publisher of LEADERSHIP Newspapers, Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Yayale Ahmed, former Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Joy Ogwu and renowned public administrator, Dr Charles Aderemi Akintoye.

The founder of the university, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, said at the inauguration yesterday, that the appointment of the board is a major milestone that will boost education, not only for Baze University but the entire nation.

He said the members were selected across all the geopolitical zones in the country in order to nationalize and internationalize the trusteeship. “I’m please to announce that in a system where we have over 90% of private universities having over 90% of their trustees from two states within one region, Baze University has the vision to nationalize and internationalize our trusteeship. To the best that I can do, we have trustee members from every geopolitical zone even though we are not mandated by law.”

In his acceptance speech, Sambo assured that the Board will put all efforts and their experience to ensure that they contribute positively to the development of education.”Anything that has to do with Education, for me I’m always ready to participate. There will continue to be investment in the teaching capacity of this University. The lecturers and other necessary staff of this University and other necessary staff of this university there will also be continuous investment in infrastructure that include the teaching materials, providing basic infrastructure in building and other facilities and aslo the proper management of students in all aspects.”

He said the investment in education requires a lot of resources both financial and human. Continuously, the enabling environment is being provided by the decision of government to encourage private sector to invest in education which is very good. Here, the University is expanding and building other campuses in other states.

According to him, “The population of this country is huge and it encouraging to see that there are constantly new universities being established. So I believe with time we will achieve the objective to have proper number of universities that will support the number of students we have in this country.”
